Visualising landscapes

Through the use of different materials, such as textiles and also experimenting with printing techniques I started exploring how landscape can be manifested visually. I have experimented with screen printing and gelli plates, creating monoprint style abstract images. Quite playfully and intuitively I created segments with either different textiles and also using different colours to observe how layering occurs. This enables me to explore the importance of materiality to create different effects and also how these are expressed visually. The nice thing about experimenting with printing techniques is that the results are not always as expected and this can open up the visual possibilities of expressing a concept. In this case, visualising landscape.

Visualising landscape is important to my project because by exploring Hilbre island I not only need to contemplate how landscape is intrinsically shaped but also the role erosion plays in the de-construction of the landscape. The sea is the main factor of erosion on the island whilst also the human imprint on the land.
