Ecologies and Ecosystems
Ecology means the study of interactions among living things and their environment. It provides an understanding of these vital interactions whilst considering the values that also people place on their relationship with the earth and its inhabitants.
The Ecologies of Hilbre as the theme for the upcoming event on the 9th of November, encompass the interactions between flora, fauna and people. In addition to this, the aims of one of the workshops on the day will be to also explore how the geology and the people relate to one another. Read more here >>
Ecosystems on the other hand, relate to the specific within an ecology. It involves the study of a geographic area where plants, animals, and other organisms, as well as non living things such as the weather and features on the landscape, work together to form a bubble of life.
The Ecologies of Hilbre Island - A Creative Expedition - will involve a creative approach to learning about Hilbre’s ecologies and the symbiotic exchanges happening throughout this sanctuary for nature. The interactions that will be pointed out - through the audio guided tour as well as the workshops and poetry performance - will be those happening between the land and humans, humans and wildlife as well as the wildlife with the land itself. By doing so, this experience will add conceptual depth to the overall experience of the Ecologies of Hilbre. This event will enable people to access knowledge without making it a requirement any previous scientific experience. The main requirement to participate will be the willingness to engage with the environment, through careful observation, engaging the senses and thinking about what is being observed.
